Entire communities on the main island of Hawaii are destroyed because of lava from the Kilauea volcano. Many residents are unsure if their homes still exist. A photographer captured a picture of a disaster resistant SteelMaster building surrounded by lava. The steel arches of the disaster resistant building were still standing. This is because the eruption temperature of the Kilauea lava is approximately 2,140 degrees Fahrenheit. But it takes approximately 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit for steel to even begin to burn. So far, an estimated 600 to 700 homes have been claimed by the lava. Our thoughts are with those affected by the tragedy.
