Sand Storage and Transload Facilities
From municipal agencies to fracking companies, SteelMaster has a durable, cost effective solution for all sand storage needs.
Frac Sand Storage
Hydraulic fracturing, also known as “fracking,” involves the injection of over a million gallons of water, sand and chemicals at a high pressure as far as 10,000 feet below the surface. The fluids cause the rock layer to crack. The sand holds those cracks open and the chemicals help the natural gas or oil seep out. A recent report shows that the market value for frac sand in North America will increase from an estimated $4 billion in 2018 to about $6 billion in 2023.
Frac sand isn’t exactly like the sand you’d find at the beach. It can be in the form of ceramic beads, resin-coated sand and natural sand. Similar to general sand storage, our buildings will protect frac sand from the elements, keeping it dry and pure for processing.
Frac sand companies often store their proppants in sand silos, also known as frac storage tanks or frac bins. These storage tanks only contain frac sand. A major advantage of owning a SteelMaster storage building is the ability to store frac sand and equipment used in the fracking process. Because there are no beams and trusses, there’s even more room for storage and customization.
Transloading is the process of transferring a shipment from one mode of transportation to another. Shipments and goods are typically transloaded at some type of storage facility, like a warehouse.
SteelMaster’s custom warehouses are an ideal solution for frac sand transloading facilities. Our warehouses are available in six models with widths of up to 150’ and in unlimited lengths. Because of the clear span design, there is plenty of room for large trucks to pick up and drop off shipments inside of the building.
Storing equipment can be expensive, but with a SteelMaster building, that doesn’t have to be the case. Our DIY buildings are cost-effective and will save you money over the years.
You can also save time during the building process. Our buildings are prefabricated, which makes it much easier to assemble them quickly with the help of just a small crew. Every steel panel is pre-punched and pre-drilled at our factory before it arrives on your doorstep.
If you have a tight deadline to meet, SteelMaster’s buildings are your best bet.
General Sand Storage
Public works departments, departments of transportation and other agencies often purchase sand along with salt to treat icy roads. Sand improves traction by increasing friction and prevents tires from slipping on slick roads.
SteelMaster’s sand storage facilities will keep rain and snow off of stored bulk materials, keeping the materials dry. Our structures are less susceptible to leaks due to the steel panels having a nine inch overlap with two rows of bolts and an end to end 3.5 inch overlap. This eliminates the possibility of losing sand due to run off. Plus, if sand is not properly covered, it can become lumpy or frozen, which makes it harder to handle.
Although there are no worries of corrosion with sand storage, sand should be contained within concrete block walls to keep it from resting against the side of the building for long periods of time.
In addition, the storage capabilities are versatile as well. They can store other bulk items such as mulch, gravel, dirt, fertilizer, grain and more. We offer bulk storage solutions in widths up to 80 feet in the appropriate conditions.
A SteelMaster metal storage building’s clear span design eliminates the need for beams and trusses, leaving more than enough clearance for trucks, loaders and other large vehicles to drive inside and move throughout the structure. We offer bulk storage solutions in widths up to 80 ft in the appropriate conditions and are known around the world as the ideal containment solution.
