30 x 40 Metal Garage Kit

30 x 40 Metal Garage Kit

30 x 40 is one of the most popular metal garage sizes we sell – and for good reason! It works for two cars, allowing for ample space for up to four vehicles and an additional workshop or storage area.

Despite its large size, our 30 x 40 garages come as prefab kits that are still easy to assemble, taking days, not weeks and requiring just one size wrench to bolt the arches together. This is ideal for people who need the expansive space of a 1,200 square foot garage but don’t want to spend much time and money constructing it.

30 x 40 x 14 Purchase & Construction FAQs

Does SteelMaster provide 30x40 garage plans?

Yes, when you speak SteelMaster we’ll discuss detailed pricing and construction considerations and provide you with finalized, state-stamped blueprints of your garage should you decide a Quonset garage is right for you. You can use these blueprints to apply for code approval and permitting before construction begins.

What other garage sizes may work?

Your garage building can range anywhere between 10 feet wide and 60 feet wide with unlimited length in increments of two feet (the width of a prefab steel panel). If you need more or less space than a 30 x 40 garage package provides, you can widen, lengthen, or shorten any of those dimensions to get you a perfectly sized garage for your needs. Popular alternatives to 30 x 40 include: 32 x 40, 24 x 30, 26 x 36, 30 x 30 and 30 x 36 garages.

Additionally, you can easily expand your garage by adding steel arches in two-foot increments. Your 30×40 garage can become a 40×40 garage (or longer!) by adding five arches.

Can I create a custom endwall to match the rest of my property?

Endwalls can be simple steel panels or elaborate works of art – depending on your budget and design preferences. You can save money by building out a custom endwall or SteelMaster can provide standard steel endwalls for an additional cost, as well as parts and accessories like garage doors, service doors, or vents.

Will SteelMaster assemble the building?

No, you can’t hire SteelMaster to assemble your garage. However, our prefab garage kits are designed to be DIY and you may choose to hire a local contractor. Additionally, the SteelMaster team will provide you with ongoing technical support should you have any questions throughout the construction process.

One of the advantages of SteelMaster compared to other garage building companies is that you do not only get a building, but you also can rely on our decades of experience to answer any questions before you make your purchase. When your garage is delivered, you’ll have a clear plan for constructing it.

Can I add electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems?

Yes, after your Quonset garage is constructed, you can add electrical, plumbing, or HVAC systems to your building. Quonsets can be used as homes or offices, so any comfort or feature you’d expect to find in those settings can also be integrated into your garage plans.

Can I add an extra story or loft to my garage?

Yes, because the Quonset hut acts as both the structural support and outer shell of your garage, the interior has 100% usable space. This allows you to add an upstairs, an attic for storage, a loft, or a mezzanine level. If you’re interested in building another level inside your garage, be sure to mention it to your building specialist so they can design a building with the appropriate height and gauge.

Can I paint my Quonset garage?

Yes. Some garage owners wish to paint their garages to a desired color. If you choose to paint your building and are not using a primer, it is recommended to use high gloss water-based, self-priming 100% acrylic paint. However, every SteelMaster garage is coated in anti-corrosive Galvalume Plus and does not require painting. Check out our blog featuring a SteelMaster client detailing the step-by-step process of painting their Quonset shed.
