24 x 36 x 14 Purchase & Construction FAQs

Will my garage meet local code and load requirements?

Every garage SteelMaster sells comes with state-stamped blueprints produced by our engineers at the factory specifically for your building and its location. If you need to get a permit for your garage, these blueprints can be submitted as part of your application.

How easy is it to expand my garage?

Quonset garages are comprised of arches that can be added to at any point in the future. Each steel arch adds two extra feet of length and can be expanded as far as you need. Expanding your garage is as easy as it was to construct it in the first place – bolt together steel arches.

What's the most popular endwall choice?

One of the great things about a Quonset garage is that you have complete control of your endwall. Most of our customers prefer to build their own (or hire a contractor to do so) so there’s no one specific type of endwall that is most popular. SteelMaster does offer steel endwalls with garage doors, service doors, windows and canopies if requested.

Can I hire SteelMaster for construction?

SteelMaster doesn’t currently offer construction services on the garages we sell. However, our buildings are prefabricated so even if you have little to no construction experience, you should be able to do it yourself. You always have the option to hire a local contractor, they love assembling Quonsets because they’re quick and easy compared to most construction jobs.

Can I add electrical? Plumbing? HVAC?

For garages that will be dual-use, things like electrical, plumbing and ventilation can be added to the building after it’s constructed. Be sure to mention this to our team and we can help you plan accordingly.

Can I paint my Quonset garage?

Yes. Some garage owners wish to paint their garages to a desired color. If you choose to paint your building and are not using a primer, it is recommended to use high gloss water-based, self-priming 100% acrylic paint. However, every SteelMaster garage comes with an anti-corrosive coating, Galvalume Plus, and does not require painting. Check out our blog featuring a SteelMaster client detailing the step-by-step process of painting their Quonset shed.
