How Quonsets Are Shipped

How Quonsets Are Shipped

The panel design of metal Quonset huts makes shipping easy. The panels are stacked on top of each other and often covered with a tarp for additional protection. The heaviest arch panel in 22-gauge is about 40 pounds.

Once fabrication is complete, the panels and necessary hardware are loaded and secured on a truck to ship to your destination. Several buildings can fit onto the truck depending on the size of the buildings. If you have additional parts and accessories, most, if not all, of these items will be shipped with your building.

For overseas shipping, the panels are stacked on top of each other and, if required, can be crated, framed with wood, and then covered with a metal case for additional protection.

The panels are placed in a shipping container for shipment to your destination.

Several buildings can fit into a 20′ or 40′ container, depending on their size.

Delivery Timeline

From order to delivery, the quickest you can get a Quonset hut delivered is between 4 – 6 weeks. That said there are number of factors that will impact how long it takes to get your building delivered:

Fabrication

Fabrication

The bigger the building, the longer fabrication and packing may take.

Factory production

Factory production

Buildings are fabricated per each order, so your building will be in queue for production and will be made as soon as possible.

Design Complexity

Design Complexity

If your project is very complex, it may include custom materials that might take a bit more time to obtain. Standard building designs are often produced faster than highly customized projects.

Weather Conditions

Weather Conditions

Weather, especially in areas that receive a lot of snow in the winter, can cause delays in shipping due to ice and snow impacting travel.

Delivery Options

So long as a remote location within the contiguous United States is reachable by a semi-truck, the chances are a Quonset can be delivered to that location. In rare instances when your Quonset can’t be delivered directly to the build site, SteelMaster works with customers to get the building as close as possible. For places like Alaska, Hawaii, or international locations, delivery options can include:

  • Any address with road access
  • Delivered to the nearest port

Advantages Of Factory-Shipped Quonsets

When you purchase a factory-direct Quonset, you bypass intermediaries like retailers and sales agents, which dramatically reduces the final price of your building. This direct approach means you’re paying exclusively for the materials and manufacturing process, without absorbing the additional expenses typically built into the pricing of resellers.

By removing middlemen and unnecessary markups, customers can often save 20-30% on their total building investment. This means you can either reduce your overall expenditure or upgrade to a higher-quality building with the same budget.

Every dollar saved on unnecessary overhead translates directly into more square footage, better materials, or additional customization options for your Quonset hut.

Perhaps even more valuable than the financial benefits is the direct access to the manufacturer’s expertise. When you work directly with the factory, you gain immediate communication with in-house engineers and building design specialists who have intimate knowledge of the product.

Unlike secondary sales representatives, these experts can provide detailed, technical answers to your specific questions, help you customize your building to exact specifications, and offer professional guidance throughout the entire process.

This direct connection ensures that your unique requirements are understood precisely, minimizing potential misunderstandings and allowing for more tailored solutions. Whether you’re planning an agricultural storage facility, a commercial workshop, or a personal garage, having direct access to the manufacturing team means your vision can be realized with maximum accuracy and efficiency.

By choosing a factory-direct approach, you’re not just purchasing a building—you’re investing in a streamlined, cost-effective, and expertly supported construction solution that puts you in direct contact with the industry’s most knowledgeable professionals.

Who unloads the Quonset from the truck?

Who unloads the Quonset from the truck?

As an industry standard, most buildings are offloaded by the customer.

For sheds and smaller garage-size buildings, this can usually be done with two to three people and by hand. For larger buildings, a forklift, front-end loader, backhoe, or boom truck is typically used. Please note that the trucks do not have forklifts with them.

It is recommended that you wear gloves if unloading by hand.
