Every two-car garage is engineered to IBC and ASCE-7 standards, accounting for the specific wind, snow, and seismic loads in your area. While the garages are built to meet broad safety standards, you should always confirm local zoning rules and permits needed for full compliance.

Will I receive drawings suitable for permits?

Every garage kit comes with licensed, state-stamped engineering drawings. Unlike generic CAD “factory-stamped” drawings, these blueprints are signed off by a professional engineer and can be submitted for permit approval in most areas.

Do you have people who specialize in my state?

Absolutely. Every state has a dedicated, certified building specialist who is thoroughly familiar with your state’s local nuances, such as load requirements and geographic factors. While they may not be physically in your state, they can provide expert guidance tailored to your location to help your garage project go smoothly.

What gauge and grade of steel is used in your two-car garages?

Our two-car garages use a minimum of 22-gauge steel, thicker than the typical 26-gauge used by other companies. The steel is a premium high-strength material with a yield strength of 80,000 PSI and grade 80. Thicker gauges can be specified if required by local snow or wind loads.

Are there any local approvals or zoning requirements I should verify before starting?

Absolutely. Even with engineer-stamped plans, you’ll need to verify zoning, setback requirements, HOA rules (if applicable), and local building permits. Your building specialist can help guide you, but ultimate responsibility rests with the property owner.

Widths (starting at 24’) are designed for side-by-side parking, heights can accommodate taller trucks, RVs, lifts, or storage racks, and lengths range from approximately 24 to 40 feet. Lengths range from 24’L to 40’L, with multiple models available to match your preferred style and load requirements.

Can the two-car garage accommodate larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks?

Absolutely. Our two-car garages are designed with widths and heights that comfortably fit two vehicles side by side. Taller heights and longer lengths can accommodate larger SUVs, pickup trucks, and some RVs. Be sure to check your specific vehicle dimensions when selecting the width, height, and length to make sure everything fits comfortably.

Can doors, windows, or vents be added, and how customizable are they?

Yes. Garage doors, walk-in doors, vents, and framed window openings can be included. Two-car garages often feature one or two large garage doors, depending on width. Your building specialist will help determine the optimal configuration and door sizes.

Can the garage be lengthened or widened later if I need more space down the line?

Additional arches can add length in two-foot increments, allowing you to extend the garage length if your storage needs grow. The garages can’t be widened, but in some cases, customers choose to build a second garage alongside the first for more space.

What type of foundation is most suitable for a two-car garage?

A concrete slab is most common and recommended for vehicle storage.

Our garage kits offer an simple DIY construction process, requiring minimal tools and limited building expertise, making them easier to assemble than traditional building methods.

The short answer is: it depends on your comfort with construction and the garage size. A majority of customers assemble their garages themselves with a small team, who aren’t as DIY savvy hire contractors.

How long does a typical two-car garage take to construct once all materials arrive?

A team of three or more can raise 6–8 arches per day. For a 24-foot-long garage (12 arches), assembly typically takes 2–3 days, depending on width and height.

Are there manuals, videos, or technical support available to help with assembly?

Yes. Each garage includes a construction manual with basic assembly instructions. Our customer service and aftermarket specialists are available to guide you or your contractor, and we provide step-by-step videos on our YouTube channel.

What tools and equipment are needed to complete the build?

Construction of a two-car garage requires basic tools that can be found at your local hardware store.

Tools:

Cordless drill driver, electric drill (3/8″ minimum, variable speed), or pneumatic impact gun with corresponding drill bits

Bought a building to store my tractor and trailer. I’m very pleased with the quality of the building and the support provided for getting it assembled. Also, the delivery truck driver was very helpful and accommodating. I had to assemble the building on my own and was able to do so by building a wood frame that allowed me to assemble one 2’ wide section at a time. It allowed me to assemble the building at my own pace. I’m very pleased with the final product.

They are selling buildings. So I encountered a selling machine. But in this machine, I found active thoughtful humans. Drew stayed after me in sales for months until I got the value and discount I wanted. They gave extra services. Elizabeth was my after sales point of contact. I expected to get dropped. They are still in contact. Further, their architectural drawings were accurate. Their steel gauges are higher than others. Who knows if it’s true or not but Drew would claim to talk to the owner and then come back with a better deal in negotiation. At least good negotiators if not actually talking to the owner.

The purchase was easy. They gave a lot of information, including blueprints for the building and suggested way to put together, tie down and concrete slab blueprints. Just be carful if you receive your building after business hours or on a weekend, you must pay with check. The driver doesn’t have a way to run a credit/debit card and there is a fee if you do.

Steel Master sent me literature and after discussion with Sales people, bought a larger XA building. Building arrived on three pallets, one rather heavy but unloading went fine. As a builder we cleared site and poured footing from the certified plans provided. Building was erected by a steel erection crew and we finished slush in of base.
All in all Steel Master folks were very responsive and I would definitely recommend them and their buildings!

We bought the Quonset hut several years ago. It took FOREVER to figure out how to assemble it. Thankfully we had some family members help us even though none of us knew what we were doing. There are absolutely NO directions for putting these together. When my husband decided that he wanted the end walls, I was extremely upset! I knew we would have the same issues! Now 2 yrs later we still have no end walls up. We are both retired and are not inexperienced with building and constructing things. We have gotten no help from this company. When we asked for some directions, all we received were schematics. These are NOT directions! This is not new for this company. We have spoken to several people and all have had the same experience. I would NEVER endorse this company!! This was not an inexpensive endeavor and I feel like I’ve been robbed!!

Had fun assembling Quonset hut. My brother, his wife and my wife and I put it together in a day. Following instructions is important. Lengths of angle iron supplied helped space sections as we built. I milled my own lumber to build the end walls. I had leftover wood and metal for end wall siding.
I’m very pleased with the whole project. I just wish I could have afforded longer building.
I use it as winter storage and shop.

We ordered a complete 28' by 40' ft. steel building (Model X28-16) with industrial base connector base. It was certainly a challenge since we had only 3 people, myself and my wife and her sister and a 25 ft. capable gas scissor lift which was essential since the building is 18ft high in the middle. We put up 8ft straight sides and then assembled the whole middle and raised it with the scissor lift and bolted to the two sides repeating 20 times. It certainly was a challenge but resulted in a beautiful building with sliding doors in the front.

I have had my steel master building since 2021. The structure and build are solid and I have never experienced any problems with leaks. Now Im converting the structure from storage to living space and SteelMaster was able to provide me with all the engineering to apply for my permits. I ordered a 40' by 52' Q model and it was shipped on the date promised. The delivery driver was very accommodating, helping me unstack part of the arches due to the pallet being too heavy, thank you! I referenced every YouTube video on the assembly and got some good pointers. First off, very impressed by the quality, fit and consistency of the panels, definitely a well designed system. I got a scissor lift as this seemed the best way to get this job done. Like everyone says, the first 3 arches are challenging, especially when you're doing it alone. After the first 3 arches were standing I did the rest of the assembly one panel at a time. I've heard from other comments that the instructions are vague but I rarely look to instructions anyway, just did a visual inventory of what I had in front of me and figured it out. About 1/3rd of the way through, I realized I only received about 1/2 of the bolts I needed so I called the salesman who I originally bought the building from, and he said no problem, I had 2 extra buckets of bolts ups shipped in 6 days. There is the upsell phonecall after the sale of the building, giving you options of industrial base plates, insulation, end walls and other accessories but I had my own plans for everything, I just wanted the building shell and went with the key way slab as per the design provided. 3 weeks of work and I couldn't be happier with my building! By the way, this is going to be a Barndominium, 1/3 home (2 story, 2 bed 2 bath 1230sqft) and the rest garage/shop. I highly recommend the SteelMaster arch system based on my experience.

Customer service ladies were very pleasant and helpful. My project is maybe unusual, in that I have an old barn and was in search of 2 replacement panels. The original manufacturer is defunct. So, I called your company and two of your competitors. Only you guys had any interest in helping me. Tara provided a cross section drawing with measurements, and that helped me determine that your panels would work. My SteelMaster Buildings experience was A+ all the way. I was advised by Noah, and he was totally supportive at every step, from buying to building. I decided on a 24' x 24' x 12' high building with end walls.

When my city held up my building permit for nitpicky reasons, Noah and SteelMaster Buildings went to bat for me and had their engineers contact my city and get the problems ironed out.

I had done my reading, and I knew the delivery date and time of the truck that was delivering my parts and I knew I had to unload the truck myself. That went smoothly and was unloaded in about 15 minutes.

I checked over the parts, and I was missing 3 washers. I informed Noah the same day as delivery and he made sure to get them for me before I began construction.

After reading the construction manual several times, watching some videos and reading other's building tips, I began construction. I rented a scissors lift to make erection easier and I never had more than 3 people helping, most times it was 2 people.

I made sure to check the height after each arch, and jacked up each arch with a small bottle jack. Construction went smooth, and everything went up easily and aligning all the bolt holes was not bad.

When we had the arches constructed and went to insert the remaining bolts, 95% of the holes lined up so well that all we had to do was to drop the bolts in the holes.

We have had some really hard thunderstorms this summer, and after the first storm I noticed a leak, more of a drip really. I tracked it down to one single bolt that we had failed to tighten. I tightened up that bolt and since have had absolutely no drips or leaks.

Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with my SteelMaster Buildings experience!

Steelmaster was excellent to work with, Barrett and Matt made the process very simple and got me exactly the kit that I wanted. The shipping was fast, Jason the truck driver was excellent; he had great communication with his ETA, great backing skills, and was friendly. The kit was fun and enjoyable to put together, having previous experience from doing a Quonset about 15 years really helped, plus the fact of having cordless tools now (which weren’t popular/ were very expensive back then) made the process much easier. Once you get the first few arches up the building gets quite stiff and you can walk away from the project until you have time or bad weather improves, then with every bolt after that you can feel how strong it becomes. Very strong design and good metal. The building should last many many years, I wouldn’t be surprised if it outlives me. Thank you SteelMaster!
