Prices for Quonset huts can start as low as $9 per square foot. When calculating the cost of your building, it’s important to consider several important factors.
Building Use & Size
Are you using your Quonset hut as a garage to protect your vehicle from the elements, or a house? The size and use of your building can impact the thickness/amount of steel used, which can increase the price of your building.
Site Location
Wind and snow load requirements may require different designs or a thicker gauge of steel, which can save or cost additional money.
Assembly Method
The majority of SteelMaster customers assemble their buildings themselves. However, some hire contractors or outside help at an additional cost, which will increase their overall building price.
Customization
Customization options, such as parts and accessories, should be priced into your Quonset hut budget.
Ways To Save On Your Quonset
The total cost of a building, including the material, construction and maintenance costs is dramatically lower for Quonset Hut to begin with. This allows many to get a bigger building with more features for the same cost of a traditional building. However, there are still other ways you can save when you buy a Quonset:
- Build it yourself or with a little help – Prefab Quonsets kits are designed to be easily constructed and require no special training or engineering background to complete. Many SteelMaster customers realize the majority of their building cost savings in the greatly reduced (if any) labor costs to build a Quonset structure versus a traditional structure.
- Limit customizations – While Quonsets can be customized to fit almost any purpose, the more custom features you add to a Quonset the more it may end up costing you. Customization options, such as parts and accessories, should be priced into your Quonset hut budget.
- Buy off of the clearance list – Look for discounts from manufacturers that you can take advantage of in the form of clearance price lists, seasonal promotions or shipping options.

My experiance at Steel Masters was excellent. Noah knew the answer immediately to every question we had. We were able to text with him so he could send us specs and pictures right away. He also sent some step by step construction pictures. We live on an island and he worked with us to figure out delivery to the ferry. Our transaction was done electronically which made it so easy. It was also more than half off! I'd recommend them if you are looking at a steel structure of any kind. We can't wait to get our building.
The purchase was easy. They gave a lot of information, including blueprints for the building and suggested way to put together, tie down and concrete slab blueprints. Just be carful if you receive your building after business hours or on a weekend, you must pay with check. The driver doesn’t have a way to run a credit/debit card and there is a fee if you do.

Steel Master sent me literature and after discussion with Sales people, bought a larger XA building. Building arrived on three pallets, one rather heavy but unloading went fine. As a builder we cleared site and poured footing from the certified plans provided. Building was erected by a steel erection crew and we finished slush in of base.

From the inception of our idea of owning a Quonset home my husband and I have had an overall great experience with SteelMaster and their liaisons. The liaisons were easy to get in touch with and were very helpful and responsive with our questions and concerns.
Had fun assembling Quonset hut. My brother, his wife and my wife and I put it together in a day. Following instructions is important. Lengths of angle iron supplied helped space sections as we built. I milled my own lumber to build the end walls. I had leftover wood and metal for end wall siding.

Wasn’t able to purchase BUT never had someone try so hard to help…Nick did his best to work out the best deal with the best quality… Nick went to bat more than once, unfortunately I was not able to come through on my end. I am very happy with my new Steelmaster building. Great staff to work with, prompt delivery and it went together with little hassle.
We ordered a complete 28' by 40' ft. steel building (Model X28-16) with industrial base connector base. It was certainly a challenge since we had only 3 people, myself and my wife and her sister and a 25 ft. capable gas scissor lift which was essential since the building is 18ft high in the middle. We put up 8ft straight sides and then assembled the whole middle and raised it with the scissor lift and bolted to the two sides repeating 20 times. It certainly was a challenge but resulted in a beautiful building with sliding doors in the front.

Bought a 32x38 model A building. Went together amazing. Built all the sections first. With 2 guys on each side and a guy on the scissor lift setting the section in place at the top the bolts lined up perfectly.

I have had my steel master building since 2021. The structure and build are solid and I have never experienced any problems with leaks. Now Im converting the structure from storage to living space and SteelMaster was able to provide me with all the engineering to apply for my permits. Their customer service was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. My unit is located in the high desert and is exposed to extreme weather, wind and temperatures and I can see it is built to withstand anything Mother Nature throws at it. Highly recommended for any storage or living needs.
So far, all communication with SteelMaster has been great, responsive to many questions about the unit itself, the foundation required, specs etc. Gordon is your guy, he's very knowledgeable about the product he's selling and he takes the time to help you understand their process. We are now at the point of receiving the blueprints for our project. So far everyone we have been in contact with at, SteelMaster, has been competent, helpful, friendly and supportive. Giving us a high degree of confidence in the company that we have chosen for our quonset hut storage shed. Only after ordering, and seeing examples of projects in our area, did we realize that we knew of other buildings nearby, Joshua Tree, that were manufactured by SteelMaster. Confirming for us that we are working with a company’s product that we want to use when we build our new home on our 160 acres in the Pioneertown area. Currently preparing the foundation, looking forward to taking delivery of, and assembling, our new quonset hut, storage shed.
Great experience overall. They communicate well and often, you know what’s going on with every step of the process, and the price was quite reasonable. I would definitely recommend. I went with a 20 Wide 14 long Q model for a hunting cabin and it’ll be perfect, might even end up going with the insulation package from them as well.
I must say that everything has gone very well. I bought the building the end on November and I was notified today that it looks like it will be at my location by the 10th of January.

I ordered a 40' by 52' Q model and it was shipped on the date promised. The delivery driver was very accommodating, helping me unstack part of the arches due to the pallet being too heavy, thank you! I referenced every YouTube video on the assembly and got some good pointers. First off, very impressed by the quality, fit and consistency of the panels, definitely a well designed system. I got a scissor lift as this seemed the best way to get this job done. Like everyone says, the first 3 arches are challenging, especially when you're doing it alone. After the first 3 arches were standing I did the rest of the assembly one panel at a time. I've heard from other comments that the instructions are vague but I rarely look to instructions anyway, just did a visual inventory of what I had in front of me and figured it out. About 1/3rd of the way through, I realized I only received about 1/2 of the bolts I needed so I called the salesman who I originally bought the building from, and he said no problem, I had 2 extra buckets of bolts ups shipped in 6 days. There is the upsell phonecall after the sale of the building, giving you options of industrial base plates, insulation, end walls and other accessories but I had my own plans for everything, I just wanted the building shell and went with the key way slab as per the design provided. 3 weeks of work and I couldn't be happier with my building! By the way, this is going to be a Barndominium, 1/3 home (2 story, 2 bed 2 bath 1230sqft) and the rest garage/shop. I highly recommend the SteelMaster arch system based on my experience.

Customer service ladies were very pleasant and helpful. My project is maybe unusual, in that I have an old barn and was in search of 2 replacement panels. The original manufacturer is defunct. When my city held up my building permit for nitpicky reasons, Noah and SteelMaster Buildings went to bat for me and had their engineers contact my city and get the problems ironed out.
I had done my reading, and I knew the delivery date and time of the truck that was delivering my parts and I knew I had to unload the truck myself. That went smoothly and was unloaded in about 15 minutes.
I checked over the parts, and I was missing 3 washers. I informed Noah the same day as delivery and he made sure to get them for me before I began construction.
After reading the construction manual several times, watching some videos and reading other's building tips, I began construction. I rented a scissors lift to make erection easier and I never had more than 3 people helping, most times it was 2 people.
I made sure to check the height after each arch, and jacked up each arch with a small bottle jack. Construction went smooth, and everything went up easily and aligning all the bolt holes was not bad.
When we had the arches constructed and went to insert the remaining bolts, 95% of the holes lined up so well that all we had to do was to drop the bolts in the holes.
We have had some really hard thunderstorms this summer, and after the first storm I noticed a leak, more of a drip really. I tracked it down to one single bolt that we had failed to tighten. I tightened up that bolt and since have had absolutely no drips or leaks.
Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with my SteelMaster Buildings experience!

Steelmaster was excellent to work with, Barrett and Matt made the process very simple and got me exactly the kit that I wanted. The shipping was fast, Jason the truck driver was excellent; he had great communication with his ETA, great backing skills, and was friendly. The kit was fun and enjoyable to put together, having previous experience from doing a Quonset about 15 years really helped, plus the fact of having cordless tools now (which weren’t popular/ were very expensive back then) made the process much easier. Once you get the first few arches up the building gets quite stiff and you can walk away from the project until you have time or bad weather improves, then with every bolt after that you can feel how strong it becomes. Very strong design and good metal. The building should last many many years, I wouldn’t be surprised if it outlives me. Thank you SteelMaster!
SteelMaster buildings are very beautiful clean lines no worries of insects. Maintenance free. Definitely need four men to build.
