Roofing FAQ’s

Steel Roofing SystemHow does the SteelMaster arch support loads?

Heavy gauge Galvalume Plus steel fabricated with a deep curved corrugation, designed to safely resist environmental loads through a combination of internal axial forces and bending moments.

Does the SteelMaster Roofing System act as a beam or an arch?

When interior support is to be used, SteelMaster arches can be designed as curved continuous beams eliminating the horizontal reactions. For longer clear spans, the arches carry loads through a combination of thrust and bending. For shorter clear spans, thrust may be ignored.

What if interior supports are not being used?

Answer: When interior support is not utilized, SteelMaster arches are configured as arches (with combined axial force and bending), not as curved beams.

Does the SteelMaster Roofing System act as a diaphragm? If so how is it achieved?

Yes. With channel sections connected to the arch panels at the endwall columns, the SteelMaster Roofing System may be regarded as a rigid curved diaphragm for loading transfer purposes.

Metal Roofing SystemCan point loads be applied to the system?

Yes. SteelMaster has designed the roofing section with a 10 psf collateral load. Heavier equipment loads may be spread out over the steel arch sections. Exact allowable point loads will change with different snow loads on the roof.

What kind of modeling assumptions can I use in modeling the SteelMaster Roofing System?

Structural Engineers may regard the SteelMaster Roofing System as a rigid diaphragm for the support of end walls and load transfers.

How do you insulate a SteelMaster Roof?

Depending on your requirement, you can use spray foam insulation or a batton insulation which can be attached using our proprietary pin and clip system.

What interior finish details do you recommend?

Most traditional interior finishing mediums can be used that have the capability of curving with the radius of the metal roof.
