Pomfret Ice Rink - SteelMaster T-Model

Pomfret School private school in Connecticut is home to a unique ice rink building designed by architect Helmut Jahn.  The SteelMaster T-model building is used for the lobby section of the building.  The design combines steel and glass in the three-sided building and extends 240 feet in length.  SteelMaster used both 14 and 18 gauge steel that will meet or exceed the heavy snow loads common for the Northeast portion of the United States.

Working with the architect, SteelMaster created a concept that met the requirements of the designer.  Our in-house engineers did the all of the engineering for the project.  Fortunato Construction was the contractor who erected the building.

SteelMaster arched panels have increased in popularity with architects worldwide due to the strength of the product as well as the ability to manipulate the systems to meet both design and load requirements.  In addition to the superior strength, the arch system’s popularity is due to its rugged yet refined appearance.  The building system also reduces cost of projects as the system is self supporting which eliminates the need for interior support or scaffolding.  The clear span system also creates more interior space in the structure.
