One Very Unique SteelMaster!

One Very Unique SteelMaster!

The clear span design of a SteelMaster steel building provides an open area to be used however our customers desire. Whether it is left open for storage or divided up into multiple rooms, there are no beams or trusses to get in the way. They are truly a blank slate!

We recently received some photos from Alan in Tuscon, Arizona that show how he has turned his 50′ x 60′ Q-Model into a home and workshop. It is still a work in progress, but you can see how he has divided up his steel building.

“We have taken 25 feet on one end and created our residence with a kitchen, great-room, bath, and bedroom including a fireplace. Then upstairs the loft is 20′ x 30′ on the same end (sunrise side) with an exterior deck. We then made a catwalk over the shop area to the other end where we have built a 18′x18′ room with a outside deck (sunset side),” described Alan.

Clockwise from top left: North end with living area; Stairs going to loft with a mesquite tree post; South end with study over workshop area; Interior living area with loft.

We can’t wait to see what it looks like when it’s all finished! Here’s one last picture from Alan…what a gorgeous shot!

Where in the World is SteelMaster? Part 2

Where in the World is SteelMaster? Part 2

SteelMaster Buildings has steel arch buildings all across the globe. We easily conduct business worldwide and have supplied our buildings to many nations. We recently featured a project in Jamaica, but as we move into winter, it only seems fitting to showcase somewhere colder during this time of year. Here are some great photos of a Q 60’ X 20’ X 100′ that is being used as a fish factory outside of Borgarnes, Iceland.  Check back to see where we’re off to next!

The Many Uses of a Carport

The Many Uses of a Carport

A metal carport can be a valuable addition to almost any home. One of the most common reasons why someone might erect a carport on their property is to provide protection for their vehicle. However, there are many other possible uses for carports. Metal carports can easily be used for entertaining outdoors or a smaller version could be made into a cover for a walkway. They also have industrial uses such as outdoor work areas or equipment covers. Since steel carports can be made in a variety of sizes, they are the perfect solution for anything that needs to be covered! Below are some of the ways that SteelMaster customers have used their carports…

SteelMaster and The Button King

SteelMaster and The Button King

steel-building-button-king-museum-s-modelAs we continue to go through photos for our Fall Photo Contest, we came across some that just couldn’t be passed by. Dalton Stevens, better known as the Button King, submitted photos of his  two SteelMaster buildings. One is used as an entertainment room and the other as a museum. This isn’t an ordinary museum however. Stevens uses his SteelMaster to showcase his artwork of various items that he has covered in buttons over the years. His hobby all started when he began suffering from insomnia and needed something to pass the time. The first project he worked on was a denim suit. From there he covered his guitar and shoes so that he had a complete outfit for his performances. That’s right, the Button King sings too. His second SteelMaster building is used as an entertainment hall every week and has housed many family reunions and weddings. To learn more about the Button King, please visit his website or watch the video below of Stevens telling his story through one of his songs.

SteelMaster Weathers the Storm

SteelMaster Weathers the Storm

As a historic nor’easter storm leaves our area here in Virginia Beach, SteelMaster is reminded of the importance of having a high-quality, durable building that will be reliable during times like these. Here are a few stories from SteelMaster customers who have survived storms with their steel buildings.

steel-building-hurricane-rated-steel-building“Just 36 hrs after receiving a phone call from a SteelMaster representative on how to prep my building, Hurricane Ike arrived in the area in which I live (Bridge City, Texas). Your representative assured me of the Engineered wind load and even higher. “Ike” produced 110+ mph winds with a tremendous flood water surge nothing relatively close to ‘Humberto’. Three days after the Disaster I returned home, my house and building appeared to be fine from the exterior but, after opening the garage doors it appeared as though a bomb had gone off in both areas. The SteelMaster building stood its ground and looks the same from the outside as before, the water level in my home and building measured at 5′. Now, as the removal / clean up process begins the SteelMaster will become our all purpose storage / rebuild center. In the near future I’ll send you some pictures, even though I lost just about every power tool I own including my pick up. I’m extremely glad I purchased a quality Engineered building for the Southeast Coast line.”

Greg from Bridge City, TX

steelmaster-hurricane-rated-steel-buildings“Our SteelMaster made it through Hurricane Charley with flying colors.  Our building made it through a category 4 hurricane without even a wrinkle in the panels.  A lighter gauge flat roofed building down the street from ours had a collapsed roof, I would recommend SteelMaster to anyone looking for a building.”

Scott from Punta Gorda, FL

“I had an equipment shed that I put up myself that I thought was very sturdy.  I also have a SteelMaster building.  The reason I say “had” on the equipment shed was because the entire thing got blown away by Hurricane Katrina…..but my SteelMaster building withstood it all without any problems!”

Henry from McLain, MS

What Is a Quonset Hut?

What Is a Quonset Hut?

Around SteelMaster, we talk about quonset huts frequently, but what exactly is a quonset hut? The semicircular steel buildings were made popular by the U.S. military during WWII. In 1941, the U.S. Navy needed an all-purpose, lightweight building that could be shipped anywhere and assembled easily without the use of skilled labor. The steel building was first erected at the Davisville Naval Construction Battalion Center at Quonset Point, Rhode Island. Quonset huts were valuable to the military because of their flexibility. The clear-span interior allowed for them to used as barracks, latrines, offices, medical facilities, isolation wards, and bakeries. In addition, the Navy also discovered that the rounded shape of the corrugated arch is one of the strongest structures in architecture.

That clear-span interior and strength of the structure are two of the main reasons why quonset huts are still popular today. Steel quonset huts have been used for a variety of applications. SteelMaster customers have turned quonset huts into, indoor pole vaulting facilities, homes, office buildings, and agricultural storage just to name a few. The possibilities are truly endless.
