26 years of SteelMaster facts
1982 - First states we started offering products in were Virginia, North Carolina and the Southeast.
1982- SteelMaster Mission Statement: “SteelMaster provides the highest quality steel arch buildings in the world." - Customer satisfaction and excellence is the cornerstone of our continued market leadership.
1982 - First building sold to the Roanoke Island Steel and Boat works in Wanchese NC.
1982 - SteelMaster Buildings becomes incorporated and purchases its headquarters building in Virginia Beach.
1983 - Started building the sales force.
1984 - The first commercial warehouse complex was purchased.
1985 - November- the company received the trademark registration from the US Trademark and Patent office for the name “SteelMaster”.
1988 - SteelMaster awarded first place in US sales of corrugated arched style steel buildings.
1989 - Partnership with the factory.
1990 - Department of Commerce purchases a SteelMaster product for an entrance cover at the 1990 Air Show in Paris, France.
1990 - First National Advertising Campaign launched.
1991 - Changed the logo of Southeaster Steel Buildings to SteelMaster Buildings.
1992 - Created the A-model.
1992- The first A-model was erected in Dillwyn VA on Rhae Adams Sr.'s farm.
1992 - Lauren Hutton purchases 2 SteelMaster Buildings.
1995 - June Business News- 20th Century Fox purchases a SteelMaster to serve as a 450 ft long tunnel depicting a NY aqueduct in the summer's Blockbuster hit “Die Hard with a Vengeance” starring Bruce Willis. They blow it up!!!
1995- Mazda purchases a SteelMaster product for a Mazda commercial to be aired during that year's Super Bowl.
1997 – SteelMaster introduces the “SteelMaster Batting Dome”
1997 - Building sold to NASA- Langley.
1999 - Upgraded coating on the buildings from Galvalume (oil based) to Galvalume Plus (dry coated).
1999 - Introduced Grade 8.2 bolts which give more strength and salt resistance over the original Grade 1 bolts.
1999 - Created the X model for customers with higher than average wind/snow building requirements.
2000 - NASA at Cape Canaveral purchased a SteelMaster Building.
2000 - SteelMaster Buildings and Rhae are featured in Norfolk Waters - an illustrated history of Hampton Roads written by William L. Tazwell & Guy Friddell.
2001 - SteelMaster donates a building to the Rock City Church- African Awareness Campaign- The donated building went to Ghana and was used for a church, clinic, immunization station, food bank and an Educational Center.
2002 - Bryan Pine purchases a building going to Guam and wind-rated at 170MPH wind load.
2003 - GM Hummer- First Hummer project Crowley - West Hartford CT.
2003 - Instyle Magazine features “Lauren Hutton-The Naturalist” in front of her SteelMaster home with interior shots. Buildings purchased from SteelMaster in 1992.
2003 - Robert Krokker founder and President of the Citrus County Blind Americans Inc. purchase a 12,500 square foot building for a workshop for blind carpenters.
2004- SteelMaster donated a building to the Rock City Church to be used as a Men's Shelter in Baltimore MD.
2004 - Scott Rambo of Punta Gorda FL purchases a SteelMaster Building that makes it through Hurricane Charley with 145mph winds and his SteelMaster stood strong.
2004 - Donald “Pat” Patterson joins SteelMaster Buildings as President/CEO.
2005 - SteelMaster obtains the State of Florida building code product approval.
2005 - SteelMaster introduces the 'The SteelMaster Carport”.
2006 - World Resources Corporation purchases buildings for a major development project in Taiwan.
2006 - SteelMaster Buildings uses Energy Star rated materials that help in the reduction of energy cost.
2006 -Established the International Department and sell multiple buildings to Peru.
2006 – SteelMaster introduces the “SteelMaster Doggie Dorm”
2007 - SteelMaster Buildings accepted by Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) into its two-year Virginia Leaders in Export Trade (VALET) program.
2007 - Spanish website launched to serve domestic and international Spanish-speaking markets.
2007 - SteelMaster awarded the GSA (General Services Administration) contract by Federal Government
2007 - Representatives from the international division of SteelMaster visit Angola, Africa to discuss building systems to be used for refugee housing.
2007 - Hodgdon Powder Company purchases several SteelMaster buildings for office facilities to support their gun powder factory in Herrington, KS. The building was designed by el dorado Architects and constructed by Kelley Construction.
2007 – SteelMaster introduces the “SteelMaster Smoke Shelter”
2007 - SteelMaster attends the AIA Conference in Richmond, VA to introduce the product lines to architects seeking non-traditional elements for their design work.
2007 - Fine Wood Working Magazine features Ross Tieken's workshop that was built using a SteelMaster roofing system. The shop is located in Shiner, Texas and is constructed on the footprint of his grandfather's old cement works business.
2007 - SteelMaster building at the Pasco County Jail withstands tornado that rips through several other non-SteelMaster buildings. The story of the tornados that tore through the county appeared on Fox 13 in Tampa Bay.
2008 – SteelMaster introduces the “SteelMaster Bus Stop”
